I have been in a short position (either puts or common) since the stock was ~56. It has gone up a lot since then, hasn't it?

You are arguing from the general to the specific. I doubt that anyone who was short at ASND IPO or shortly after has been constantly short to this point without giving up. Sometimes we cover when the issue moves over significant resistance or moving averages, and revisit the issue later. ASND has been a great short for those who waited.
