Red chip CASIL develops digital satellite receiver........................

asiansources.com

HONG KONG - China Aerospace International Holdings (CASIL), in a joint-venture with a French manufacturer, has recently developed a state-of-the-art digital satellite TV receiver. The company, a listed arm of Aerospace Industry Corp. under the Ministry of Aerospace Industry, plans to become a key player in Hong Kong's high tech market.

"We expect to recoup the investment within the year," said Terry Lui Pin, general manager for research and development. He would not say how much had been invested.

CASIL intends to market the product in the Asia-Pacific region while the French partner would focus on the European market, Liu said. More than 10,000 receivers will be delivered to Europe to test the market.

The market potential for digital satellite TV receivers is great, Lui said, with growth expected to be supported by the trend toward digital TV.

The company is currently in talks with central government ministries, including those for aerospace, electronics, and post and telecommunications, to cooperate in the further development of high tech products -- October 15, 1997

What do you mean by staggering? Could mean reeling or could mean immense. The way the stock is dropping I kinda think you mean reeling.

SGS-Thomson, Logitech offer kit for USB camera in monitors

FREMONT, Calif.--Logitech and SGS-Thomson Microelectronics today
said they were joining forces to market a kit of ICs and software for
implementing video camera functions in desktop computer monitors.

Under the partnership, Logitech is leveraging its expertise in control devices
and imaging solutions while SGS-Thomson applies its know-how in chip
integration. The kit comprises a chip set from SGS-Thomson and software
driver designed by Logitech. The kit will be marketed to manufacturers of
computer monitors.

SGS-Thomson and Logitech said their solution offers features not available
in competing video products. Use of the Universal Serial Bus (USB)
interface adds plug-and-play power and addresses a rapidly growing
market, the said.

"Over the next few years we'll see more and more video-enabled desktops
as the technology becomes both powerful and affordable,"
said Junien
Labrousse, vice president of Logitech's Video Business Division in Fremont.
"The Universal Serial Bus interface, which has brought new potential to
peripherals manufacturers, will play a key role in this video revolution, with
its ability to overcome current limits on image data transfer rates."
