I find that my thinking is sharpened if I labor over a draft. I have spent hours upon hours on memoranda that are no more than eight or nine pages long. My win/lose ratio, however, is very good. In forums like this, I don't think it matters much. I am OK with anyone who simply gets his ideas across regardless of form.>> Agreed. Be it a legal brief or something for someother serious purpose, the only way is write and re-write(one also tightens up one's thoughts, gets them into a sharp focus, fixing more solidly into one's mind, and with someone like me, having been born with primary dyslexia, it goes quadruple!(VBG:) BTW, a fair amount of my typos come from my typing with one finger where the finger misses a target key or hits two keys at once, my real writing i still use pencil and yellow sheet pads. Alastair Cook had for many years "Letter from America" on the BBC. Letters were once a week, he spend four days writing and re-writing, another day orally reading it, and when it was heard it sounded so natural and "off-the-cuff"--that's writing:) i am sure Wallace's works got better and better with every re-write, and he did say he adored his editor, he never fought his editor's editing. If i were to do meaningful blogging i would limit it to ONE blog a week, using the week to get the blog right. i admire GST precise communiques, i don't know if it does that in one run-off your not--if so--he is lucky--but it comes off as carefully distilled and cleansed to make each word count. i can say one thing about the late and missed Zeev Hed, when Zeev did NOT take his time his posts came out as jabberwocky--Zeev really checked and rechecked his longer posts. As i am actually oft in a post just re-ranting other posts it would be best to just carefully write one post and repost it, when the response needed be where that post would do the job. O yes i did go into a room and beat my head against a wall until unconcious after that Malibu/Impala gaft(VBG:) It has been 50 years yes, but that was SLOPPY--my anger was the gaft was used by someone to charge me as BSer. i am indeed quite non-passive when i feel i was delivered with intent a cheapshot, and generally respond in kind or worse, something i learned on the playground in grade school ages ago--never unlearned it .. don't want to, at that.
