Chao,

You probably wouldn't have seen anything wrong with John D. Rockefeller buying up all the refineries, and petroluem transport facilities as well.... :0) No problem if you only would have been able to buy "Standard Oil" products at prices that he dictated.

Java is not a monopoly. It is a language that is being co-developed by numerous software companies according to SUNW standards which generally state that Java will retain a cross-platform compatibility. MSFT only wants your applications, including Java, to work on Win95. Now if SUNW was developing Java to only operate on SunSparc O/S's, I would feel less sympathy.

It is no wonder that box makers want to get out from servitude of being "Microserfs" to the MSFT Overlord. For this economy to maximize efficiencies in the IT sector (we're spending far too much money constantly updating software applications and buying site licenses for each client computer), we need the capability to place a software application on one system and make it available to multiple users. Software costs are hurting the bottom line of many companies and Java holds the promise of pinching a few pennies to give back to the bottom line, and thus, the respective shareholders.

But then again, I guess I'm just not a capitalist ideologue. I believe that extremes in monopolistic capitalistic practices are just as stifling to economic progress as any "Iron Wall".

Regards,

Ron
