Yeah, that makes LOTS of sense.

I agree with you. It's a conundrum. But here's my take on it and why I feel rather bewildered about everything that's happened and how Dems got themselves into this box.

If the bill passes (and I think it will), there could be a groundswell of rejection. Seniors, I think, will vote with their feet over using Medicare to pay for the thing. If this starts gutting the party in the fall, and then even pushes Obama out of office after one term, then what have Dems gained?

The answer, of course, the hcr bill. But to me, the bill itself is so ugly and so fiscally irresponsible, it leaves me feeling Dems have thrown the country back into the hands of Reps for a foolish cause.

But there are other things, big and small, that rather bewilder me and leave me shaking my head and thinking 'these people just aren't smart'. Like right now, Obama wants China to allow the yuan to appreciate. This would pretty much be a gift from the Chinese and add to their own inflation worries. In spite of this, Obama makes a big arms sale to Taiwan. This does help US industry but still. Worse though is Obama's visit to the Dalai Lama. Good gravy. How obtuse could Obama be.
