New phen-fen/Redux lawsuit good for IPIC! The following news release straight from the lawfirm hit the wires last Thursday, and of significant interest is the complete list of all defendants named in the suit.....did they forget us? <<WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- An amended complaint seeking class action status was filed Oct. 9, 1997, in the action Bloom et al v. American Home Products Corp., et al, Case No. 97-4784(WHW) in Federal Court in the District of New Jersey against manufacturers of the diet pills fenfluramine, phentermine and dexfenfluramine; commonly referred to as fen/phen with the brand names Pondimin, Ionamin, Fastin and Redux, respectively. The class consists of individuals who purchased those pills after May 1, 1992. The suit was filed on behalf of individuals who purchased and used the diet drugs and seeks recovery of a full refund of the purchase price of the consumed pills, damages for emotional distress and fraud, and the establishment of a fund for medical monitoring relief. This suit does not address those individuals who have already been diagnosed with fen/phen or Redux related ailments; but it does address those who have taken the pills and have an enhanced risk of developing those ailments. Studies have linked the diet pills to Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, heart-valve deterioration, abnormal EKG and brain damage. The Food and Drug Administration urged millions of dieters to immediately stop taking the drugs. The defendants in the suit are Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories; American HomeProducts, Corp.; SmithKline Beecham Corp.; Medeva Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; Fisons Pharmaceuticals; and A.H. Robins Co., Inc. >>
