A person can a get a degree in Education in 4 years...most states require state certification and some states, eg NY, then require them to get a Masters Degree within 5 years. There is a very high dropout rate of young teachers in their first 5 years. I think your quote "those who can ,do....." However, the fact is teachers can do many others jobs, but few others can teach. But I think it is also true that a lot of teachers have gotten into a rut and have no desire to get out.
