You will get no argument from me on welfare of every kind. Giant welfare conglomerates like Cargill are just fleecing us. But then so are the rest of the millionaire subsidy recipients.

A government is required to keep order and d the few essential tasks that are too large for individuals such as Provide for the Common Defense, Maintain a Common Currency and provide a Unified Foreign Policy. Everything else the government does could be better done by charities or the private sector. Coincidentally, I believe these are the delineated powers for the federal government mentioned in the Constitution.

One of my personal "pet peeves" is this whole "Disability" thing. How many 10's of MILLIONS of people in this Country are collecting "Disability"? I see lawyers advertising that they can GET you on disability if the government has given you a hard time about it.

How DISABLED should you have to be before the government just sends you a check every month???

Its not just a problem in that people can scam the system, but also people who are somewhat disabled can to a certain extent be "trapped" in the system. I put "trapped" in quotes since they are not really trapped, they could just forgo the check, but its difficult when people have gotten dependent on it.

If you get SS disability you also get Medicare. In some cases for low skilled and partially disabled people, it can be difficult for them to get a job that equals what they get from the combination of the disability check and the medical benefits. Taking a job that they can actually get can reduce their net income. Its like facing a marginal tax rate of over 100%. If they are confident they might feel its worth it, because they will work hard and eventually move up, but most people receiving disability payments are going to be reluctant to take the short term hit, combined with the long term risk, so they may cling to the benefits. If they are able to work they might take informal off the books jobs, but be reluctant to enter the formal workforce (unless their benefits are cut off and they are forced to do so).
