The secret to being left alone is to be obviously strong enough that potential bullies are intimidated by us. Hiding one's head in the sand with ideas like those below would be disastrous for the ability to be isolationist. The Russians aren't any threat. The Chinese aren't any threat either. They are both large threats. Booth are forging ahead with programs while we are cutting back. We have NO CHOICE now but to "pull back" on our military expenditures. Wrong. We have no choice bu to continue to develop better defenses rather than falling behind as our enemies continue to improve their attack abilities. We can no longer "defend" every square inch of the planet. Agreed. If a country wants to benefit from our protective umbrella then they must pay the cost. Closing foreign bases is the way to save on military expenses.
