I may be out of date on this, but I think the author got it wrong about the electric Gatling guns fore and aft. I think they are radar guided rapid firing 5 inch cannons. Of course, the real striking power of a Ticonderoga Aegis cruiser, or a destroyer lies inside the missile tubes.

The anti missile guns are mid ship both sides (looks like a very large R2D2) Phalanx (CIWS 1B) fires about 3000 rounds per minute:

I saw one take down a drone once. It locked on in a second and started tracking. When firing all you heard was this 2 second burst, wwwwhhhhaaaaaa. The drone itself had so many holes in it, it just lost its aerodynamics and fell into the sea..... Awesome.
