Hi Norman

<But now CDSL should die a certain death for the following reasons:
1. It is still in the early design stages

To be introduced in 98. (Purportedly not that hard to get 1Mbps)

2. only 1 Mbit/sec (CDSL) vs 1.5 Mbit/sec (ADSL DMT)

With 40kbps net throughput, shouldn't make much difference.

3. loops can only reach 18K (CDSL) vs 22K (ADSL DMT)

Degrades just like ADSL. DMT won't get 22K for a lot of copper. Where you do, CDSL will likely get longer rach as well.

4. CDSL splitterless advantage is gone >

CDSL ALSO plans to offer CDSL modems that fit directly into the current switches W/O the need for a DSLAM. I don't know the details yet (anyone listen to conf call this AM?), but this would be a major plus for CDSL. And not all ADSL is splitterless.
