20MM, I guess that qualifies as a cannon...

The history of arming aircraft has always interested me. We started out with 30 cal machine guns, which were too light. WWII use was either slow firing 20 mm cannon or 50 Cal. The P-40 Warhawk ended up with four 50s, and could really blow holes. In Korea, the Sabres had 50's and the Migs had 20,s but what made the difference was the gunsights and the quality of our pilots.

The weapon of choice now is the 20mm electic Gatling, which has enormous firepower and range. Funny how the original machine gun design, the Gatling, wins out in the end.
