The Fed is corrupt. I agree. And corruption is bad for the economy -- I agree. The Fed should be cleaned up -- I agree.

But in the really high stakes game that is being played out today when it comes to financing the current account deficit, the Fed has no magic solution -- it is as trapped as are you and I. Focusing on the Fed allows us at most to have a focal point for our anger -- but it is an anger that distracts us from having the conversations we need to have.

The ship is sinking -- tying the Fed to the bow of the ship and flogging it with whips and chains will not stop the ship from sinking -- evil as we might agree that it has become.
