Note that in college ball, the game clock stops on a made basket with less than a minute remaining. That allows the opposing team to call a time-out after any score and save at least five seconds of time (the limit you are allowed to hold the ball before inbounding it-- not including the time that runs off the clock after the ball drops through the hoop, you retrieve it, and step out of bounds). The NBA and high school don't have this rule. That's why college basketball has the drama it does.
