"There is a big difference but since they take it at both ends it's moot" Well, in a sense, any money that anybody makes in this country is made with the support of the roads and the schools and the cops and the fire department and the zoning regulations department, etc. I'm grateful they let me keep enough for groceries. There's no sacrifice too great for the children. You do want to support the children, don't you? As far as taxing savings go, why not? Spending supports the economy. Savers are a selfish lot, misers, Scrooge McDuck. As someone on another thread is fond of ending his/her posts, We are so screwed.
