I was watching CNBC today, on and off, as I often do. It really struck me that there is a carnival atmosphere about the whole political theater. A yes moved over to a no, a cheer goes up in the crowd. And now an undecided moves over to a yes. More cheers, groans. Only two laps to go at the Indy 500. Politicians and pundits of all stripes basking in the lights, the drama, the attention. Historic moment. Lions and gladiators. Makes me ill.

Funny thing happened last year. The school where Jon goes holds a raffle, mandatory participation. It's a way they can advertise tuition at $6500, rather than the $7200 it actually is, including this $500 raffle ticket and a mandatory $200 for the Gala fund raiser, where at least you get a bad diner if you go but are subjected to constant nickel dime crap so it's hard to even enjoy the rubber chicken. But about the raffle, one needs to earn $700 to buy the ticket with the $500 after tax net. Last year Janet won the thing, prize is $500. Paid the tax on that, $350 net. Made me laugh in a funny sort of way.
