This is very similar to mutual fund performance charts that just happen to end in an up year. Except that the extreme bias is upside down to that one.

Here it looks like the great times were under Carter and that Reagan really screwed the pooch when he cut taxes and expanded debt. We have a pretty good revival under Newt/Clinton's "balanced budget", which all nutjobs claim was fake numbers. But then we end on the scary financial collapse. Pretty silly stuff. No wonder the author is Nobel Prize Winner Nate. <VBG>

A great illustration of the book "How To Lie With Statistics." It isn't really lying. It's picking your start and end points very carefully. And not looking at any other factors, such as Asia destroying our manufacturing base.
