Stupak has some unique and personal issues with respect to the FDA, which could have colored his view of healthcare reform:

Stupak is also not very bright, as far as I can tell. As the 2002 Congressional hearing on ImClone (the scandal that enveloped Sam Waksal and Martha Stewart), Stupak pronounced the word oncology as oh-NAN-oh-CAH-loh-gee.
