KT, The only way to control costs over the long haul is to ration health care at level "X" and then allow private citizens to buy anything above that out of their own pockets or through supplementary insurance. It is a 100% certainty that the private sector will find ever more expensive ways to provide superior testing, treatment, and life prolonging measures that everyone will want. The insurance companies will then simply pass the increased costs through as increased premiums. The government will then simply make more promises it can't keep and borrow us into bankruptcy, tax us into permanent stagnation, and/or create a currency crisis at an even earlier date than on our current path. The left has the emotional maturity of a 6 year old and economic understanding of mildly retarded 4 year old. The right is more interested in profits than health care. So we are very unlikely to ever actually solve any of these issues and try to maximize both value for our health care dollar and freedom for our citizens. I've already decided that as soon as my parents are gone and there is nothing holding me in the US anymore, I am packing my bags and leaving the country. I want no aspect of my future (safety or economic) tied to the corrupt imbeciles that are currently in office acting as the puppets of Wall St, foreign policy traitors, and other scoundrels that use government to advance their personal agendas and pillage the public. The trick is going to be picking my next residence because the political left and financial elite have done such enormous damage globally, there really aren't many possible destinations (especially among English speaking populations).
