As successful and good as Medicare has been, it has also wound up costing a lot more than was projected in 1965. That is one of the underlying worries about this current healthcare reform. Who knows what it will ultimately cost? One thing I don't think they figured in was how much would be saved by people receiving primary care instead of emergency room care. Of course, it will also depend on people seeking out medical help from cheaper primary care facilities rather than emergency rooms. The government needs to help change the culture in some areas in which people rush to the emergency room for all medical care. People have to get used to going to the doctor for non emergencies.
