Jeff, the average person in Asia cannot afford a phone yet...forget about a computer

I heard some analyst saying that people were missing the boat when they predicted that they tech (and especially chip) companies would be hurt by the Asian currency crisis because the tech goods weren't imported for consumption but instead for assembling into export products. Of course the plunge in the currencies would have to hurt the assembly company's ability to by parts.

Another point about Asia and CSCO: CSCO is not a consumer product. Its products are part of a company's/government's infrastructure--as fundamental as plumbing. So as Asia attempts to increase its exports in order to recover, network infrastructure will be required for global competition/trading. As Asia's governments, banks, and big companies are intertwined (see this week's Bus Week), they are likely to throw big bucks at whatever is percieved to help them recover. (IMHO, of course.)
