I know the idea of making those Americans with socialist tendencies pay for most or all of their own health care premiums seems shocking, but you'll get used to the idea in time.

The government already imposes a steep "Food User Fees", a disguised tax, on the food most families eat - by requiring each family to pay for their own food purchases.

Only the poorest among us evade a portion of this nefarious "Food User Fee" if they qualify for Food Stamps - which in California provide an average monthly benefit of $137 per person.

In California only 48% of those eligible for Food Stamps are enrolled, compared with a 66% participation rate nationally, the remaining 52% of those eligible for Food Stamps pay the full amount of the government mandated "Food User Fee". If you're an unemployed adult without assets, you can qualify for Food Stamps for a three month period, once every three years - so the terms are quite generous.

Requiring folks to be self-reliant and pay the full User Fees for their own food and medical expenses does seem out of step with previous Reaganesque Free Money schemes, but with a leaner economy, paying for your own food and health insurance is the wave of the future.

I'm confident you'll adapt.
