You can reasonably believe the stated findings. You cannot reasonably conclude that walking prevents weight gain. It may or may not. To find out, you'd need to do a study designed to make that determination. The study, as presented, doesn't inform us on that matter and is useless in that regard.

Well you could always look up the original study in today's JAMA.

Perhaps the author of the story misrepresented what the study author said so I won't fuss at the study author for not knowing the difference between correlation and causation. I will merely point out to you, once again, that they are not the same thing.

Yes I know. With 34,000 participants over 13 years there is certainly proof of correlation and you have to be pretty skeptical not to see causation.

Anyway just thought you would be interested as we were discussing the topic. No need for a debate.
