They needed Joe for the magic 60; since they are more likely to have 52-54 seats next year, Joe's importance will fade, unless they get down to 51 including him. For all his nuisance value, he serves a purpose in some circumstances.

It's beyond me to understand how you permit a senator who campaigned against his own party's presidential candidate to retain any clout.

It is just cold calculation politics. Lieberman is Senator #60 for the Democrats (before Scott Brown). If he was Senator #61, he would likely have been treated much worse.

If the Republicans pick up 9 seats in November, maybe Joe will start to organize with the Republicans?

Campaigning for oneself at the cost of the health care of the people who elected them to the office is deplorable.

Lieberman was serving more as a prompter for McCain because McCain could not read from a teleprompter :)
