When your talking about "the structural flaw" are you talking about of health care insurance in the US general, or are you only examining the specific point of "pulling the rug our from under policy holders"?

John, I suspect considers profit to be at the root of both the particular and the broader system. Hard to be sure.

I was addressing it in the context of the discussion, which started with aghast expressions re that particular practice. I picked up on that because it provided the perfect opportunity to disprove the profit meme in a manageable package.

I'd be hard pressed to synthesize down to a single key structural flaw in the overall system. Maybe a half dozen. If it still mattered, that is.

Or perhaps you consider the pulling the rug out issue to be common enough and severe enough to be the central problem with health care insurance in the US?

I don't. Which is why I clarified my "if." I think it's horrid to the extent that it's happening. We don't know the extent to which it's happening, I don't think. If it's happening, it shouldn't be and that's a state failure and an industry failure and just plain disgusting all around.

It's a pretty simple problem to fix, though, assuming you're out to fix that problem rather than reinvent the universe using that as an excuse.
