It is unfortunate that some who hold the issue of "right to life" dear to their hearts have decided to bring their pet issue to the fore. Ii can see the point of those who maintain that their dollars should not go for abortion. But let us also extend that thought to those issues which destroys life such as alcohol and tobacco consumption, processed foods etc. But is this the issue when we talk about UHC. The issue was kind of forced on them, I think, because of the inclusion of abortion benefits in exchange offered insurance policies. In reality, "right to life" type people are usually religious people, but religious people worry about everything and are concerned about all of the things you mention. In my lifetime of experience, those people who are regular church attenders are also quite active in the community, incl. the schools. They're generally the first to volunteer in schools and hospitals. They will throw their time and money into all kinds of causes....not just things of a spiritual nature. The right-wing political clowns that claim to speak for the Christian community leave a lot of false impressions in their wake. In every day life, the Christian community is a motley crew. Some are passionate conservationists, some are health food nuts, some are keen on marching in front of abortion clinics.....the point being that they each have pet issues and don't move in lockstep.
