Carl - Re: "Industry analysts claim Intel has 80% of the market share in the processor arena, and that's true in terms of revenue. In terms of processors sold, however, Intel has a much smaller share of the total market-about 35%."

Maybe Intel's attorneys "planted" that bit of nonsense so as to convince the FTC/DOJ that Intel DOES NOT have a monopoly.

Or, maybe AMD solved their yield problems a lot faster than anyone predicted!

The author clearly never bothered to read any of the quarterly reports of these 3 companies, and he most certainly never listened to the conference calls following these reports.

Remember - never confuse the News with the Facts.

Paul

Carl, why don't you e-mail Ms. Baker and ask her for her source in stating that Intel only serves up 35% of processors sold. If I owned this stock, you can bet I would be dashing off an e-mail. There must be an e-mail address for the author in the article. Clearly 35% is ludicrous, and contrary to anything I've ever heard. Plain common sense says that if Intel has 80% of market share in terms of revenue as the author states, and AMD & Cyrix price their processors 25% below Intel (which is stated policy of AMD & Cyrix), then 80% Intel revenue reduced by 25% (to compare apples to apples) would still put Intel at 60% and others at 40%.

Maybe it's the new math they're teaching nowdays?

carl, Re: Intel has a much smaller share of the total market-about 35%

I believe they count in Nitendo, Play Station CPUs
(and other embedded one in printers as well) to come
to this number. So they are in a sense correct but
meaningless.

BTW, our stretegy is causing me an arm in this round.
Well, easy come easy go and I can wait much longer.

Just calm down, INTC will be all right, and next year this time when you look back and compare the stock price of then with now, you will
see $75 for INTC is really a bargin !!!
The PII series will compete with AMD and Cyrex for low to middle end PC market , the the mecede will compete with Sunw for middle to high end workstation market. The PII will sell for revenue and volumes. The total units for Sub $1000 CPU may be double or even
trible in the next couple years. With .35 CMOS , four layer metal
process technology and 8" wafers, INTC cost of good die may be $20 to
$30 and with $25 for packaging, the total cost is around $50 to $60
per CPU and the margin is still high per CPU, but the total volumes
are increased substantially. While with this selling price of CPU ,
i.e the PII family, from $80 to $300, AMD will lose money due to
the problem of low yield, i.e 20% to 30%, and the more cpus AMD sells the more money it will lose. So, we may say bye bye to AMD if it can
not the yield asap. This is just the fact in business, you can not
survive with losing money forever !!!!!!!!!!

Dear Carl,
Is it time to go to the Chapel of Intc and put some more money in the collection plate?

I'm getting dressed in my church clothes pretty soon with a big pocket book!

Enjoy all of you posts!

Humblely yours,

Marcie McGovern
