"That fried the carry traders who were short the clownbuck, in turn causing commodities to drop."

You think there's that much of a carry trade still out there after the dollar's run? I don't know, but I would think most of those guys/gals got smashed already.

"Conversely, maybe news that the IMF is wading into the Bay of PIGS means they'll be forced to sell their gold sooner rather than later to pay for it, which is why gold got sold in advance."

According to the Kitco breakdown, almost all of gold's sales yesterday were dollar related, but I don't know how reliable their meter is.

As to the miners, the Gold:Xau and Gold:hui have been way above historical averages for a while. I don't know what will cause those numbers to drop, cause if the metal goes down, the stocks will get hurt even more. I suspect if we ever get to a blow off phase, the miners will have massive moves, but that may be awhile, if ever. Either that or we have a big washout in the metal and the miners outperform from the bottom.

I think the dollar's in line waiting to be smacked around. Gotta get through the Euro and Pound first, then the dollar?
