China imports 300 times more Russian electricity in 2009 than in 200822:24, March 24, 2010

The electricity China imported from Russia saw a surge in 2009, up more than 316 times than in 2008 to reach 738 million kilowatt-hours, according to the latest statistics from north China's Harbin Customs.

North China's Heilongjiang Province took 100 percent of the electricity imported from Russia in 2009, and the economic value of the imported electricity was estimated around 29 million U.S.dollars, according to the provincial capital's customs.

The Heilongjiang Electric Power Company estimated that about 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity would be imported by the end of 2010, with a total economic value of over 40 million U.S. dollars.
