Certainly the "Loss of Empire" theme is huge in most of the Kinks most productive work (the albums of the late 60's/early 70's, Arthur, Village Green Preservation Society, Muswell Hillbillies) deal with that theme extensively and well. I heard someone (John Lennon?) once say that Ray Davies should be named poet laureate of England some day, for the rare gift he has in portraying everyday British life. Who am I to quibble.....?<G>
