Bush's spending habits where prudent compared to Obama's.

And even if Bush was the more profligate one, comparing them is the real "pathetic answer", since spending doesn't subtract from other spending it adds to it. The more profligate Bush was the more important it is for his successors to not follow his example.

Partisan comparisons don't change current reality. "He did it too", is no defense.
