Lindsey Graham acknowledges "comprehensive immigration reform" is kaput:

<<< Immigration reform legislation is "dead" in the Senate this year, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Thursday.

Graham, who's sought to work with some Democrats on the controversial issues, said that healthcare efforts had "poisoned the well" for bipartisan cooperation going forward. . . .

The senator issued a challenge to Obama, too: write your own bill.

"To the president: If you want to deliver on your unwavering commitment to immigration reform, write a bill," he said. "You write the bill, send it to the House. See what happens, because I don't think you have much of a chance of getting it through the Senate." >>>

Oh, and about that "unwavering commitment" -- DHS secretary Janet Napolitano, the administration's point-man on immigration, had this to say:

<<< Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on Thursday told a packed lecture hall at Arizona State University that the Obama administration is setting its sights on immigration reform.

"We're going to keep pushing this until we get it over the finish line," said Napolitano. . . .

"What I cannot tell you is the when," Napolitano said. "We know now that health care is done, that clears the decks. . . . But the commitment -- long term or short term -- is certainly there." >>>

"Long term or short term"? That's Obama-speak for "in our second term."
