Are you being purposely dense?

AT&T, and other U.S. companies that provide prescription-drug benefits to retirees, receive a federal subsidy, the value of which also can be deducted from the firms' taxes.

The healthcare overhaul plan signed by President Obama this week cancels the deductibility of the subsidy, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

They were receiving a government subsidy, which they were then deducting. A corporate handout. Not only are they getting government assistance on employee compensation, but they are also getting a deduction for it. Is it really THAT hard for you to understand?

Obviously, you don't understand employee compensation and retention. The benefit is the company's, not the employee's. It's a way for the company to retain employees at a lower cost, via a government handout. Are you really that clueless?
