"One example is the requirement to not turn down anyone with "pre-existing conditions." "

You do realize they go into a special pool? And some states already do this? Wouldn't it make sense to see if that has been a disaster before projecting disaster?

Well, that's true about the costs to businesses and pre-existing conditions increasing costs to everyone. However, I also think that you may be ignoring all the benefits such as increased number of days healthy people can work and the fewer bankruptcies we'll have in this country (health care costs are the leading cause of bankruptcies), to name a couple.

Overall, I think it is a good investment to ensure all Americans have access to health care. In fact, I'll say it is an much better investment than spending the $1 trillion in Iraq that Bush and the GOP did.
