Hi Tommaso,

You present an interesting perspective on why the U.S. didn't 'finish the job' in Iraq. You make good sense out of why Sadam is still there. I believe you may be very accurate in your assessment. The end of the Soviet Union may be the only good to come out of that reasonable strategy. Thanks for your post.

Very interesting conjecture on Saudis. Agree on cold war influence of sparing Saddam.

A vacuum of Iraqui leadership is to no one's advantage. Syria and Iran would move and probably consume Iraq. That would increase the threat to Israel, Turkey, Kuait, and the Saudis.
