Any idea how much "profit" is being made on these chips by cyrix and amd? According to both companies results last quarter, there aren't making money hand over fist. Why should the low cost producer chase after a business where there is little to no profit margin?

These prices are for what is called a "bare bones" system -- just a motherboard, CPU, case, power supply and Keyboard. The Cyrix Media GX chips do the modem, video (I'm not sure) and sound in software on the CPU. These prices do not include disk drives or useable amounts of memory. You can buy Intel P-133/150/166 "bare bones" systems in the same price range (low $300 and up). Figure about $200 for motherboard and CPU (P-166), $35 for case $20 for keyboard, $30 for low-cost VGA, etc.

Paul,

I'm still interested in your motivation for spending many hours on this thread running down one of the most successful and profitable companies in the world, and suggesting that folks should invest in companies that have demonstrated that they can't execute on the operations side and can't make a profit on the financial side.

A couple of questions:

1. Are you short Intel and do you think that you can influence it's stock price with negative comments on this thread?
2. Are you long AMD or Cyrix and assume that if you can shift Intel investors to these companies and their stock price will go up?
3. Is this a personality situation, in your past have you had problems with authority figures?

Most people spend their time in more profitable efforts such as looking for companies to invest in, or to short, you seem to be fixated on a strange and irrational crusade against Intel. Please reveal the motivation for your lack of respect for this very good company, so that people can put your overly negative posts in perspective.

Thanks,

John

Fiondella: No wonder Paul E. sez what he does about you... These prices are bogus. Nobody is going to sell anything at these prices and make a buck. Certainly NOT Cyrix and AMD.. Think for a change???? How does ANYONE make money at these prices???

Sure great prices..... so way can AMD do 15mil... they are notorious for production problems.. read there 10Q...
But most importantly... you are counting chickens when all you've got is eggs... Nobodies gonna buy the damn things.
Take a survey ask around find someone who wants to give up a 486 with a hard drive for a Pentium NC with no mem & no hard drive... I run with two or 3 applications open at once... can't do that on an NC.

See who is willing to give up Excel or Lotus.. don't tell me your gonna Java the applet to me Ha.

AMD can have the low end... that's all they have every had is the scraps of low end... and they never seem to make a profit at it either!
