Aha! You have hit on the crux of the matter, the confusion of IF it's happening with WHY it's happening. At this time there IS a consensus in the scientific community that Global Warming is happening, and the few scientists who say it's not are considered by most scientists to be the modern day equivalent of the Flat Earth Society. If someone wants to debate why it's happening, they may have good arguments. If they say it's not happening then forcing them to try and explain the ice shelf melting is a good way to keep them from wasting your time, because they can't explain it.
