Good gosh Mish. Who is more valuable?

What kind of stupid argument is that?
Would you rather I cut of your right leg or your left?

Mish

Steve wage disparity is rampant.. on value for work performed.. beyond that. We are implementing a new harmonized VAT tax in Ontario... Provincial sales tax being harmonized with federal GST tax.. It adds a lot to the end users (me for instance, costs) but that is how we balance the money our politician pi$$ away :O) At any rate that's business as usual.. what is really galling is the tax folks working for the province leave work one Friday as provincial employees and return to the same job,. same office, same desk, no lost wages at all... the following Monday... with BIG FAT bonuses some as high as 45K ... because they have become fed employees ... it's in the union contract ...

As to teachers... lots of good ones.. they make good dough for it, have great benefits etc etc.. I know some out of school environment..... and unfortunately the good ones feel obliged to protect the not insignificant number of crappy ones... because they are in the union... One is the dad of one of my son's friends.. goes to class.. does his time.. bare minimum.. laughs about it... Always takes an extra week at spring break.. I guess Christmas, summer and Easter plus normal spring break are not enough... kids can do with a sub.. which basically means a wasted week... Not seeing too many to Sir with Love stories out there... I meet with each teacher of my kids at every opportunity... so far my daughter has has less than 50% quality while my son has fared better... both A students so that is not an issue... I'm lucky.. but there is one hell of an entitlement issue going on...

TBS

EDIT: OTOH.. we don't have enough teachers at the lower grades.. and not enough nurses... have a lot more respect for nurses than teachers.. they always get the worst of it in cutbacks..
