Barney Frank and the black caucus fought against regulation of Fannie and Freddie. One even said he was "pissed off" at suggestion.

Democrats lied about financial regulation. Even Clinton remarked that the Democrat Congress fought regulation. You need to knock off the propaganda line.

Government regulation of financial markets was a big part of the reason behind the financial crisis of 2009.

The government treated complex securitized bundles of mortgages much more favorably in terms of reserve requirements than it treated holding the mortgage itself. The government pushed home ownership in all sorts of ways that helped lead to the housing bubble, etc.
