* Daiwa Securities America Inc started coverage of TELEFONOS DE MEXICO S.A. DE C.V. with an outperform rating. "Our year end 1998 (12-month) price taregt of $61.00 poer ADRs represents a total return of 29%, including dividends," Daiwa VP Brad Radulovacki said in a report. "We believe Telmex will have weathered the worst impact of the long distance competition during 1997 and we expect the company's performance to improve going forward.
