We could have mandated higher gas milage 50 years ago, or put a $1 gas tax on, but were too stupid to do that. Can you imagine how much oil we would have saved?! That has nothing to do with utopia, it has to do with stupidity in not doin git! That is econ 101 vinter! Raise gas prices and people will conserve oil and the country wins. Liberals have been wanting to put a big tax on gas for ever. When Bush was asked about all the gas guzzlers he said he felt it was an American right and custom. And why didn't other states ever create a permanent fund with what they had? Why don't they do it now? Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas and California produce huge amounts of oil.
