Christians have a moral foundation that is supplied by the Almighty, and regardless of what the US code states or the laws on the books at the time, Christians are held to a higher standard. Christians know that their law is based in the Ten Commandments and the commandments of Jesus Christ, who said "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:12-13 Good Christians avoid sin because they love God, not because they fear punishment. Christians know that ultimately they answer to the Lord, and His punishment is more severe than any punishment the state could mete out. Jesus specifically commands his followers to obey the Ten Commandments. Christians also are called to serve their fellow man, and for this reason Christians are in a unique position to have the desire to help in times of trouble. Mercy, compassion, love, kindness, and charity are requirements for Christians, and when there is no fear of punishment from the state, Christianity provides the ideal moral foundation for the actions of responsible citizens.
