I prefer a two party system because it forces the extremists to the moderate middle

I dunno Hawk.. maybe Koan is correct on two fronts :O).. Used to be not to long ago we had Red Tories (liberal Conservatives) and Blue Liberals (Conservative Liberals)... Hard to tell apart... The earlier Conservative party of the 80s pi$$ed us off so much they were literally decimated.. The few remaining stragglers merged with the then Alliance/Reform party to save themselves.. hence the Conservatives of today which are actually conservatives.. prior to that it was often hard to tell them apart.. both were parties of big business.. (sound familiar :O) Now we have a minority government so no one can really screw around.. I never thought I'd like that situation.. but it's working out rather well...

In the two party system with the occasional independent it seems too many Americans are holding their noses and voting for their party.. limited choice.. limited control .. on the other hand with all the dealing in your congress and senate I'm amazed anything gets passed.. from the way the media reports ... I'd really be amazed to see something passed anywhere close to its original form... without all the add ons...

Canadian parliament is more like Southpark maybe.. but we have a lot of shows laughing at out politics.. Great entertainment...

Your guys always seem different on the campaign trail and no end of telling Americans how great they are ... This last election was the first US election I really paid any attention to and the America great rhetoric from both camps was amazing.. kinda like rote learning of the times tables .. like you guys forget every 4 years or something ;o) At any rate.. once elected.. not so much difference it seems...from up here anyway :O)

Theoretically you can have a president elected with considerably less than the popular majority no ? if the electoral votes are not cast as the people hoped ? There is no rule I believe ?

anyways they're all (on both sides) gypsies tramps and thieves.. (Cher)

I used to be disgusted.. now I try to be amused.. (Elvis Costello)
