I know Union memberships can't be looking forward to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation taking over their pensions. If I remember correctly they pay about 40% of the benefits the member would get in normal retirement.

Of course that is better than nothing, but it does highlight the amount of political money spent by unions that could be used to steady their own plans rather than get someone elected.
