Yes, you got it. If you recall, I said that the major cost cutting provisions were blocked by Republicans and Moderate Dems. The Dems aren't a unified party, unlike the GOP. They are more like a big tent coalition of people from centrists and Independents all the way across the spectrum to pure liberals. That's an uneasy coalition to maintain. That's why health care was so hard to pass. The moderate Dems resisted quite a bit.

But you know all this. We all watched it play out.

I would think that anyone asserting that the GOP and conservative D's "blocked the real cost cutting measures" should be able to come up with a couple off the top of the head.

The public option...the single largest cost cutting measure in the bill was killed because of GOP filibuster creating the need to have 60 votes for passage...and Lieberman, Lincoln, Nelson... there may have been another conservative dems I can't thing of now.
