"Alex, the use of compressed video in medicine has been debated for many years. MPEG2 is "lossy" compression in which some of the image detail is lost in an amount acceptable to viewers of MOVING video images. Do you want a diagnosis performed at a lower resolution? Wht do you think an x-ray would look like on a TV set? Hell, it's hard to read text on a TV screen."

Billy,

In defense of InnovaCon, I will say they are attempting to fill an important gap in medicine. The key word is attempting of course, and I personally doubt they will be successful. Interestingly, I dont know why you need MPEG2 to send x-ray images across the country, especially because its not a real-time-dependent situation. With regards to trauma cases, I guess that would be different, but I certainly wouldn't want an arm-chair-doctor if you know what i mean.
