This is a letter that a friend sent to the Palm Beach Post, which was published today. I never heard that the plane, which crashed off Beirut, was destined for Haiti carrying doctors and medical supplies. March 24, 2010 Letter to Editor The Palm Beach Post 2751 S. Dixie Highway West Palm Beach, FL 33405 Dear Editor, The horror, magnitude and destruction in Haiti has somewhat of a silver lining. People of good will all over the world have rushed to help these poor Haitians, led by the very generous support of the United States. Your good newspaper rightfully has recognized the efforts of individuals from certain countries, particularly the medical team that flew in from Israel. They have done much good work there. According to the Arab American Institute aid has flowed in from Lebanon, including 25 tons of tents, 3 tons of medicine, vaccines and other supplies and have sent aid workers to help. The recent announcement of the Ethiopian crash just after take off from Beirut was also loaded with pharmaceuticals, and a medical team destined for Haiti. All lives were lost. Morocco sent $1 million worth of medical and pharmaceuticals Palestine individuals donated money, food and clothing to the Red Cross. Syria airlifted 30 tons of humanitarian aid. Tunisia allocated $1 million to the UN Emergency Fund created for Haiti relief. United Arab Emiratas contributed over $2.6 million. UAE charities donated more than 200 tons of medical equipment, tents, blankets, food and drinking water. Saudi Arabia donated $50 million directed through the United Nations.
