Reluctance on the part of Muslims to be eligible for the Israeli draft is understandable

I thought non-Jews were not allowed into the Israeli military? If an Israeli Muslim is drafted, what would he do? I'd thought they weren't allowed into the IDF.

Reluctance on the part of Muslims to be eligible for the Israeli draft is understandable, but at the same time, Jews in Israel face growing demographic problems of their own.

Israeli Arabs are not drafted, so that's not the reason (Druze are, and Bedouin often volunteer). For the residents of East Jerusalem, whom I think Elroy is referring to, the reason is likely to be fear of attack by other Palestinians as collaborators.

I don't think the Israeli demographic problems are as bad as made out. Israeli Arabs are prosperous, so drop their birthrate like other people. From memory, I think Israeli births per woman are 3.7 for Jews, 4.x for Arabs.

As for the figures for the territories the PA gives out, they should be regarded with suspicion like all other PA figures. Remember UN stipends are handed out per capita.
