George,
Just got a call from my Schwab 500 team leader who had a discussion with the reorg department. He apologised for the misinformation that the general brokerage area at Schwab has been giving people and suggested that I communicate this information to other Schwab customers I know. Bottom line. All Schwab customers are free to sell their shares whenever they want. The only difference is that there will be a delayed settlement which can't happen until the shares are delivered. Your trade may show up as a short but ignore it. You can trade on the web but he sugsted that I call him to make sure it doesn't get bounced.
