I'll bet you would have no problem living in Oman, UAE, Jordan, Syria, or Egypt, if you had a decent job, that is. People I know who live in those countries enjoy it a lot. Oh, and Qatar as well, if you want to count that teeny place.

Elroy, didn't you have to leave the UAE because some ruler decided he wanted a new crop of expats? How comfortable is a place you can be ordered out of anytime?


Come on, you're not going to claim that people shouldn't live and work in any country where they might lose their job, and thus lose their working visa. That would mean no US citizen should ever go live and work in France for a few years.

My point is that life is nice and normal in each of the above listed ME countries, not that you can expect lifetime employment and citizenship if you go live and work in one of them.
